we love when winemakers come to visit, especially when they come from lesser known winemaking regions like washington state!
we’re excited to welcome matt austin, winemaker at Grosgrain Vineyards, to share some of his wines with us and tell us everything we want to know about washington wines.
Matt began his career as a tax lawyer but pivoted to winemaking when he and his wife moved to washington to be closer to family.
After various stints as a cellar master and assistant winemaker, Matt and his family settled in walla walla - one of the most prominent wine regions in washington - where they bought a vineyard at auction and Grosgrain was born.
With Grosgrain, Matt is doing something a bit different. The wines are restrained, food friendly, and tend to be more moderate in alcohol. He seeks out lesser known grape varieties, and is committed to organic viticulture. grosgrain is gaining acclaim for pushing the envelope, while delivering excellent winemaking and value.
During the tasting, Matt will take us through six wines - a sparkling, two whites, a rosé and two reds.
Don’t miss your chance to taste his cult favourite wines!
